Some colorized versions of the candy hearts I posted on Saturday. Which one works the best?

The ice may be mostly melted now but I have plenty of photos left to share! Here’s ice on the Allegheny underneath the bridges

I know it felt like spring yesterday with the warmer weather but I’m not done sharing snow photos! Here’s an unpublished snow puddle that was featured in my calendar (which I still have a few left if you want one!)

Yesterday I showed you the incline with the city completely covered by fog. Shortly after that the fog started moving and you could see parts of the city again. Pretty wild!
February 3, 2025 at 2:25 PM
As the fog rolled in on Friday, I ran up to the Duquesne Incline. As I approached the entrance, I heard DING DING DING letting me know the incline was leaving. I sprinted to the fence just in time to catch it as it was the only ride the entire time I was up there. Wild there is no city!

Would yinz be mine?

For the past month I’ve been working on a cool personal project using the Pittsburghese candy hearts from @lovepittsburghshop

I went around to multiple locations with the words yinz, nebby, and jag off. Now you can send these photos as a Valentine to your favorite yinzer!

Winter wildlife including a hawk that almost flew into my head before landing in the tree
January 31, 2025 at 2:24 PM
Two weekends ago I got caught in a snow squall while in the Strip District. Naturally I ran around in the snow first before finally stopping in the stores.

There’s actually 14 photos but I can only add 4 🤷🏻‍♀️

Happy Chinese New Year! It’s the year of the snake 🐍 so what better way to honor today than with what remains of Pittsburgh’s Chinatown - the Chinatown Inn.

Unfortunately a lot of Chinatown was demolished to make way for the Boulevard of the Allies. Fortunately Chinatown Inn still stands strong

Capturing ice on the Allegheny River

Ducks navigating the icy Ohio River
January 27, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Due to the difference in water temperatures, you can actually see where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers flow into the Ohio with the snow and ice as a dividing line. This is why it’s called the confluence.

Cathedral of Learning looking pretty in the snow

Part 2 since @bsky.app only allows 4 photos at a time
January 24, 2025 at 2:31 PM
It’s a very rare phenomenon that all three rivers freeze. Allegheny freezes because it flows from the north. However, Monongahela doesn’t freeze every year because it flows from the south, meaning the water is warmer.
January 24, 2025 at 2:30 PM
So apparently @bsky.app only allows 4 photos per post and j have 9 so yea they need to increase the limit if I’m going to stick around 😂
January 23, 2025 at 2:25 PM
I’ve been waiting for the Monongahela River to finally freeze.

Because it flows from the south, it often brings warmer water. That’s why it freezes slower than the Allegheny and Ohio. Last time it froze was 2019.

When I heard temp was going down to -9 (without wind chill!), I knew I had to go out.

Here we have Washington’s Landing in the snow! Normally you see taken from 31st Street Bridge. However, this was from an overlook I discovered years ago during one of my neighborhood walks. I usually take this shot in the fall with the trees then it occurred to me I should also stop by in the snow.

Spotted some geese swimming up the barge line in between the ice
January 21, 2025 at 2:25 PM
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day today, here is the Clemente bridge lit up red, green, and black from last year. Not sure if I’ll go out tonight for more lit up bridge photos. Stay warm out there 🥶

Even when it snows I find puddles ❄️ Really loving how I got both bridges and part of the skyline with snow
January 19, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Pretty sure every millennial has been singing “ice ice baby” this past week. I know I have 😂🙈
January 18, 2025 at 2:22 PM
Went out to play in the snow yesterday! This puddle is no stranger as I have a 4 season series of it from years ago. This time it’s slightly different as the bridge is lit up. Usually I get it during daytime hours.
January 17, 2025 at 2:23 PM
Caught a barge plowing through the ice on the Allegheny River! The ice will be interesting going into early next week as temps will drop below zero 🥶
January 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
I’m sure you’ve probably heard by now that the Iron City Beer sign is gone and replaced by some law firm 😭😭😭 Took me some digging in the archives but found this unpublished puddle (not the river - too choppy) with the Duquesne Incline running
