Root is a pleasure to watch. Watching Smith bat makes me feel like I’ve got a nervous twitch as he shuffles around the crease. I don’t get this measure of greatness being you have to score a century in every country. Root has been the glue in a very poor England batting lineup for a number of years.

Everything seemed to work fine in the 60’s/70’s with Test, County, Gillette and John Player league all running along side each other all summer long and England players playing in all the formats. I love cricket but absolutely hate the 100. It’s footballs equivalent of watching a 2 a side game
