Joe Braun: hiker, photographer, and PG-13 adventurer who loves getting lost in nature and quiet places. All images are my own. No AI. 🧠♾💙
Perhaps in the Rockies, these birds are as common as seagulls and pigeons, but it totally made my day to see these birds up close. And in a random stroke of luck, I actually decided to bring my 70-300mm lens with me, so I was able to really zoom in and catch them posing for me.

And I hate to have to say it, but I need to confirm that this is a real photo of a real place; this is not AI-generated garbage. (If it was, there would be a 3-mile wide tornado in the background.)

So if this image gives you a wee bit of joy, that would make me happy. And please don't stop caring for other people. Compassion and empathy are what make us human and I feel sorry for anybody who takes joy in seeing others in unnecessary pain, as if that's going to make their world better.

Sidenote: With everything going on in the world, I'm finding it really hard to post photos these days. It seems shallow and pointless, but a good friend of mine reminded me that it's important to keep doing what you love and sharing it with others.

The sky was cloudy so I wasn't expecting much, but the sun managed to break through for a few moments to light up the horizon with a fireball glow! Simply magical. I wish I could take in more mornings like this.

This is not a tourist destination spot in Zion National Park and I should have known that a 10-mile hike in crunchy collapsing snow would be more difficult than fun. But it was still amazing to see some beautiful remote scenery and have the whole place to myself.

While you can create this trick in reality by using two middle bars to confuse the eyes, Lego was harder since the dots and strict angles give it away, so I did have to do a double exposure blending the front middle bar with the back middle bar. This is not AI imagery.

TMI: For tonight's lighthearted #throwbackthursday post, this is a classic little optical illusion that I recreated in Lego. If you don't get it at first, stare at it for a bit and the paradox will eventually jump out at you.
