Aurora borealis in Maplewood, NJ tonight

Everybody happily braved some rain for Mikie Sherrill in downtown Montclair last night. Get out and vote for her today, New Jersey. She’s great, and the alternative — surrendering our state to MAGA — is unthinkable.

2000 people came out today for #NoKings in Maplewood, NJ! Thanks #SomaAction!

Welp, she lives with me now. Her name is Dottie, short for Peridot, and she has a gentleman friend who will join her once his quarantine period elapses. His name is Basil (pronounced the British way because he’s an English budgie).

Is this your budgie? I found her in the grass near Irving Avenue in South Orange, NJ. She’s young, has a yellow head, a green and blue belly, and blue tail feathers. She’s safe — eating, drinking, and singing.

I’ll go you one more.

The arrangement gets more ornate with each of 4 verses (classic Xmas carol move a la Willcocks’ Carols for Choirs).

“No place to lay his head” has a “no room at the inn” feel, AND it’s straight out of the Bible. I think Charlie is arguably an allegorical Christ figure? 😬

I’m sorry for all the politics, but the world is kind of ending over here.

Have some chickens hanging out in my living room for balance. I’ll do my best to post more about jazz and opera too. Come to think of it, Jazz and Opera are decent names for these two ladies.

A chick with a slipped tendon can be helped. Here’s Blue, a frizzled satin rooster. He was treated with a steroid shot at the vet. When the swelling subsided, I moved the tendon back into place and splinted it at home. He chilled in a chick chair for a few days and was good to go.

Vets are increasingly updated and able to help now, but if your cat gets an FIP diagnosis, be sure to investigate the latest anti-viral research. What was once a nearly always fatal dx is now very treatable.

Here is my cat Mona before and after 3 months of treatment with GS-441524.

Will it help to see baby chickens?

Here’s a Tolbunt Polish chick next to a Serama. They shared a hatch date, but Seramas are the world’s smallest chicken.

Cochins are cuddly chickens, especially when they’re little.

Just picking up on the alt text custom here; apologies for prior images without it.

Have some baby silkies.
