In fall 2022, tens of thousands of academic workers across the UC system joined forces to carry out the largest strike in U.S. higher education history. To document the historic strike, the UCLA IRLE and UAW 4811 launched an archival research initiative in spring 2023 ⬇️

This 🦃 day think about Vicente and all farmworkers
Parsley can be used to season your Thanksgiving stuffing and soup. Vicente and his coworkers are hard at work harvesting the crop. They tell us the repetitive work is very hard on the body and takes skill to do at the rapid pace needed. #WeFeedYou

It’s happening! The UCLA Labor Center is in the Bluesky house @uclalabor.bsky.social ! This is the tipping point for my BSky experience. Let the high quality labor content roll!
The UCLA Labor Center is officially on BlueSky! Established in 1964, the UCLA Labor Center advances cutting-edge research, education, and service guided by our core values: economic equity, racial and immigrant justice, and worker power and solidarity. 👏

An article I got to collaborate on with the @uclalabor.bsky.social awhile back! We found that creative policy strategies are needed to address the time theft within today's unstable retail scheduling.
Recent scholarship on retail scheduling points to “time theft” through erratic and on-demand schedules. Employer control of worker time at and away from work sequesters time that would be spent on family, self, and others income options. That time has real value: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Hi, everyone! I created a labor and workers' rights starter pack. It's a work in progress; I searched for many people who don't seem to be on here yet. Anyhow, I hope it's helpful. I've marked it started pack #1; I'll do a followup if people send me some suggestions. go.bsky.app/8cTBrjP
