I appreciate that while in most scifi, the default phasers and such have a stun setting, while Babylon 5 says "Fuck it" and the default crew carry is a lethal PPG or Phased Plasma Gun designed to burn big holes in stuff. Plus they look cool.

The images of humans evolving into parasites to feed off one big human from the scifi book "Man after Man" makes a lot of sense considering how high rent and utilities have become.
