It's really unfair to the people who have to be the "model" gay/Mexican/female/trans/whatever person who causes them to see the light either--how exhausting. The burden should be on the observer to empathize--and it shouldn't be a burden.

Another great example is relativity of sexism or harassment--"Would you want your mother/sister/daughter to have to experience that?" How about just this individual who's experiencing it--is her pain only understandable when you can think of her in relation to someone from your own family?

Repubs famously oppose rights for people from marginalized groups, until they discover that they have one in their family ("oops, my son is gay; now I'm for gay rights" or "huh, my daughter married a Mexican"), and then they see the light. It shouldn't have to happen. Have empathy for fellow humans.

Republicans' (well, "Republicans,"as most have been replaced by the cult) concerns end at the end of their noses. Only something negatively impacting them or someone they love changes their minds. "The Left" want good things for other people even there's no benefit for us. It's called empathy.

Can someone please explain this to me, because I was initially really angry with Schumer the last time--if the government shuts down, does that give the T@ngerine opportunities to do even more but under the radar/replace govt staff/etc...as in, while the cat's away...? That's my big shutdown worry.
