Soft day of light falling,
veiled sun, and the river
like a silent sea.
 
Jackdaws clack the sky
with black wings,
egrets stand white-mirrored,
 
and we rouse secret deer
in the long grass, the sound
of galloping hooves
 
fading into the trees
and quiet,
like endings should be.
