How so?

(I know pretty much all the game's mechanics through the presentations they've done, but haven't played it)

The sad truth is that many communities are still there, and for tech support it's considered a given (especially for small companies where forums have very little traffic). So I feel I can't drop it completely just yet.

But then again, the feeling was the same for FB a few years ago, right?

There are obviously things that Discord is great for, like providing a live chat during an event, or being a campfire for a restricted group of friends.

But for a big community of people that don't know each other, or as the support site for a certain piece of software, it's really annoying.

This is not related to information quality, but given its nature of real-time chat, Discord also promotes constant checking of it, which leads to a ton of distraction.
I'd much rather have something that is more asynchronous.

I don't know, but it feels really better to be on a good old forum 🤷🏻‍♂️

And then of course 3. So much information that cannot be googled, and so the same questions get asked over and over and over again. It's a huge waste of time for everyone.

2. The whole system with channels that can be hidden is confusing. I can think of one community where people keep missing the channel where the activity is, and instead try to post in channels that have been archived. Again, so much conversation that never happens, people get misdirected, and so on.

1. Discords are hard to discover. Server owners forget that. I can think of at least two distinct communities where people keep coming in and say "I never knew such a discord existed!", and they've been saying that FOR YEARS! Imagine how many could have benefited from being in those servers!

It's crazy right? I thought the same, what the hell... where are all the new paid premium games? (answer: on other platforms)
