The Powell memo was the begining of the end of the new deal it has systemically destroyed the wealth created during the mid century, effectively returning us to what is effectively a guilded age. We will likely be facing another 1929 style crisis as we cannot sustain the wealth concentration

That's understandable and I agree, we need to make progressive changes, but the lobby for increasing cost of higher education roadmaps into specific career paths is a giant. We need progressive changes. I'm probably speaking to the choir, tho

If this is specific to things like medical or something similar, that tracks. Tech? Nawww. They're using HB1 to exploit people for low pay

I'd be interested to know what industry this is, I'm in a highly specific industry myself, with 10+ years policy and 15 years data science. Everything I learned? That was OTJ. I went to art college.

I know even more who were unable to get the grants/loans to complete programs, they went a different tech route, one saturated and low instance of hiring because the cost of entry was less $. I am confident that if we actually invested in EF dev in lieu of hiring HB1, we would have better outcomes

The TPs developed in the mid 2000s were focused on increased globalization and KSA sharing, but it's obvious that it's now exploited by big tech to overwork/underpay outside labor and disregard WF training. "We need this now" can work for the short term but WF dev should be the LT focus

Okay, if it takes years to train folks in these highly specific KSAs, then why isn't industry developing road maps to get kids in the door early to begin the OTJ training? I realize these things take time, but casting aside an opportunity for workforce development is bad LT planning for everyone

This is a tech industry TP and it's code for not wanting to either invest in said skill development or pay for Americans with the specific skill. I know because I wrote the damn policy in 2007.

The goal is to move people to "universal savings accounts" which will be tied to the stock market much like 401k. This is them saying "sorry about that healthcare cost, but you should've saved for it!" And in the end,they make $$ on it and we lose.
