To be a clinical manager yes I agree that the understanding of doing the job is essential. There are plenty of vital managerial roles that require non-clinical skills though, and these roles support frontline staff to deliver care.

Do you need a medical qualification to manage NHS data analysts, coders, digital systems, booking teams, project management, procurement, HR, finance, PALS, estates, porters, volunteers, patient engagement groups etc? The NHS is a beast that needs a whole plethora of non clinical managers.
