Celebrating the big 7-0! Thankful to wind up the 60s healthy and happy. Now, a whole new decade awaits. Excited to see what adventures and achievements lie ahead.

Enjoying tonight's fireworks from the comfort of my place, just four blocks uphill from city park. Happy Fourth!

Today, I attended a screening hosted by Wild Rivers. WR holds an annual indie film festival in August focusing on outdoor & Pacific NW films. Turns out two organizers are also retired professors! Not only did I volunteer to help at the festival, but the three of us are meeting for lunch on Monday. 😀

Since losing my mother, I'd been feeling...old. Needed something to remind me that I'm still a goddess, like rainbow hair. "Why the hell not?" was the right decision. 😁

This weekend, Brookings is holding the annual Azalea Festival. Yesterday, I enjoyed the crafts fair and art show; today, the vintage car show and book sale at the library. Scored two bags filled with books for $6. Then, headed to the harbor to dig into a history book on Chancellorsville. Happy girl!

Love the annual Eurovision Song Contest. This year, I correctly picked 3 of the top 5 songs including the winner: "Wasted Love" by JJ (representing Austria). That man can hit high notes a woman can only dream of. Congratulations, JJ and Austria.

Although I'm agnostic, I was raised Catholic and admired Pope Francis for his progressive thinking regarding climate change, LGBTQ rights and immigration. There is more work to be done, however. Hoping electors have the courage to choose another forward-thinking pope to continue Pope Francis' work.

"Warfare" realistically depicts a single hellish mission during the Iraq war, as recalled by the soldiers involved. Performances, action sequences, sound - every aspect is superb. Not a film you will "like" but one that will leave you wondering: What was accomplished? Was the price paid worth it?

A break in the rain provided the perfect opportunity to walk the dogs on Lone Ranch Beach. However, any thoughts of a picnic lunch were soon washed away.

My mother Doris, 95, passed away early this morning from cancer. Sad to lose her but also relieved given her condition. Thankful to have spent quality time with her as the end neared. Rest in peace, Madre de Mio. ❤️

There is literally a small creek running through my backyard. Another gully washer on the Oregon coast!

First time visiting Sporthaven Beach without the dogs. Scrambling over driftwood, dodging waves, collecting pretty rocks and shells - a relaxing Sunday afternoon.

So happy to see "Flow" win Best Animated Feature at this year's Oscars. Be sure to check it out!

In their interactions with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today, Trump and Vance were an embarrassment to our nation and unworthy of their offices. Let it be known that Americans support President Zelenskyy and the Ukraine against all bullies, foreign and domestic.

Across from the city park, the botanic gardens beckon. Another great place to walk the dogs. Flowers are scant this time of year, but the gardens should be glorious in the summer.

To remain sane over the next 4 years, I blocked all news outlets/pundits on social media save three: one left-center, one right-center, and a world news cooperative - all rated highly for factual reporting. Should help in developing informed opinions without bashing my head against the rocks.

Watched two Oscar-nominated animated features tonight: Flow and The Wild Robot. While WR tells a cute story using slick animation and great voice work, Flow's ability to convey a simpler, more compelling tale without a single spoken word makes it the superior film. Flow for the win!

You may recall that pals and I toast awful news with the cheapest champagne we can find, thus showing the event no respect. No bubbly was sufficiently foul to toast the inauguration, so went with pumpkin-spiced white wine. (Also stashed a fine cabernet in case karma kicks in.) To the next 4 years!

First guest! My neighbor and I enjoyed wine, appetizers and a movie while getting better acquainted. Similar demographics - and we both have San Francisco ties! Watching the movie "Milk" prompted many shared memories. We're planning to invite others from the complex to the next movie night.
