64 bit sign integer type. It's from C, where long meant 32 bit (because int was only 16 bit then), so they used 'long long' for the next size up.

You would need to write your own ping utility, or (easier) modify an existing one.

If by 'ping', you mean ICMP Echo Request, then yes? The packet has an optional payload, but all that happens is it's copied as is into the response, from what I can see.
Outside of the classic ping utility, it depends on how you're talking to the server...

Yes, this will be the fifth film. There was the 1976 film (based on the novel), two made for TV films that no one talks about, and then the 2003 remake. So yeah, it's going on 50 years now.
