Little trip to the @londonreview.bsky.social bookshop yesterday - what a beautifully curated selection of books. I came away with Doppelgänger by @naomiaklein.bsky.social which I have been meaning to read for ages plus some great books for my teens.

Baxter has adopted one of the old teddies my son was given when he was a frequent visitor to children’s A&E with severe croup. Touch wood we are over those days but feel for those parents with little ones there this winter.

Spotted on the bookshelf of one of my very favourite bookshops Much Ado Books in Alfriston - my book next to that of a much more famous local author 😍

Very exciting bookpost this morning! I absolutely loved the first Miss Austen Investigates by @jessicabull.bsky.social and can’t wait to dive back into the world of Jane Austen in this next mystery - out March 2025!

This is the time of day when Baxter starts stealing laundry to exchange for food. In other news he rolled in copious amounts of rotting cut grass on his wall today and smells like an absolute drain.

Having been a huge fan of @katemossewriter.bsky.social ever since reading Labyrinth nearly 20 years ago, and all of her subsequent books, I’m feeling rather bereft now that I’ve finished The Map of Bones - the final instalment in the Joubert Chronicles. Hope you’re planning a new series Kate 🥰

Baxter loves his walks but when it’s time to put his harness on his poodle brain says ‘let’s hide under the table’.

Last month I had the privilege of visiting the Queen Oak - more than a thousand years old - at a secret location in High Park at Blenheim Palace. Home to a myriad of wildlife. Read my piece about this tree and other oaks in this month’s edition of The Lady magazine.

When I am asked what inspired my debut novel A Deadly Discovery one of the answers is this autumnal view of Lewes Castle from my bedroom window.

This is my favourite tree in the world. She is a mighty old beech tree and she is looking particularly beautiful at the moment as her leaves have turned reddish gold. I like to stop on dog walks and put my hand on her. Call me strange but I love that moment of connection.

When I’m not up on my allotment tending to my veg I write cosy crime novels starring Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell as a pair of unlikely sleuths.

Afternoon up on the allotment cutting back the grass paths, clearing the raspberry bed and cutting back autumn fruiting canes and checking on the broad beans already popping up for next year.

This is Baxter. He has just had a groom and is looking very smart. But Baxter won’t feel like himself again until he has rolled in something disgusting 💩

On the media beat today covering Good Housekeeping Live where I picked up some fabulous mid-life tips from Liz Earle - a manifesto for menopause. Now determined to start the day by replacing phone with electrolytes, morning light and grounding by going outside with no shoes on!
