That said, it's pretty glaring that they only published the median numbers, and only used one global market-based number for electricity CO2 intensity. And when you do stuff like that it's reasonable for people to question your motives.

What a weird article. You'd think from the sub-heading it's about net-zero vs temperature neutrality, but the author just uses that as a springboard to complain about industrial agriculture. And the framing of having to choose between supporting small farmers or burning more fossil fuels is bizarre.

Thank you (and the other authors) for this paper. The ASDP sankey diagram and iLUC numbers in particular were eye opening. I wish I was more surprised at the government's attempts to use a more farmer-friendly definition of climate neutrality.

I'm not sure this paper can be applied to gas as well as oil since the authors note that "Modeling the curtailment of gas supply raises other issues that are beyond the scope of this paper, such as the interaction between gas and coal demand."

Nice paper, thanks for sharing. As a non-economist I had kind of assumed that market leakage was 100% in many cases, and the fact that it almost never is is making me rethink some things around other kinds of consumption.

This was a great (but infuriating) read, thanks for the recommendation. Also @naomioreskes.bsky.social just joined bluesky!
