Chartered engineer (space systems are my jam); team, process and comms facilitator (Lego SeriousPlay is my other jam); chair of school governors (education is my other other jam). Tri-jammed. Erdös number is 5. Does not suffer fools gladly.
Hope everyone gets to do something they like this weekend, and get outside, and not get any wetter or colder than they prefer. Massive weekend of sand dune complex #orienteering coming up...

Always enjoy getting errors from systems that should handle errors better. Here's Eventbrite right now for me. At least it's vague and doesn't leak many insights.

Day off. Heading to the horizon and beyond Luossavaara via the straightest route through controls (little orange flags). Here's one that lives near a boulder. #orienteering #naturpasset It's cold and kinda bleak but beautiful in its own empty way.

Well that was fun, but it was also the slowest and hardest #orienteering I've done in a _long_ time. Everything white here is a boulder field, mapped boulders are a bit of a lottery, and everything yellow that isn't farmland is a boulder field you can see before you trip. Speaking of long times...

Outside the Institut för Rymdfysik (IRF, Institute of space physics), there is a bird feeder/house which is also the Institut för Rymdfysik. Inside there are small people looking at their own IRF feeder. Its Institutes all the way down...

I'm staying on this rock until this scene is black and starry. There are no humanlights in this field of view. If I don't return to civilisation, someone can tell my kids to leave my bones here.

M57, the ring nebula, only captured because a car alarm woke me and rather than get angry about that I needed something calm in the universe. Shoddy conditions from urban back yard, 40s, high cloud haze. Still, that light set off >2500 years ago and it made it here ok. #astro #starGoesPop #hatecars

Just a reminder for anyone who needs it... if you get a choice, it's _Always_ better to live on a planet with an atmosphere.

Don't ride your scooter so fast that your little droid struggles to hang on.

Having a day out at the UK's first facilitator community meeting for Lego SeriousPlay. If you know what that means - great. Did it start with making a tower? Heck yes. If you don't know what that means but want to make your team more awesome in a Hard-Fun way, let me know. #lspdays25 #seriousplay

@heardislandgov.bsky.social I saw this card and thought of you all down there, fighting the good fight.

Been too long since had a lifeboaty day, so very much making up for it. #rnli #rnli200 This is, appropriately, Swanage's 13th lifeboat, the 'George Thomas Lacy'. The first 13 in its number is the class (length) - and the second because it was the 13th Shannon class boat to be built. Love it.

First #orienteering event I've done in Devon for 10 years, on the weirdly named Virtuous Lady. Very annoyed to have made 4 mistakes, each of which cost me first place. Still happy with 3rd, despite how unfit I am. Great area though, and superb organisation. Thx Devon O.

dismantled, repaired, upgraded, then remantled telescope. in a gap in the clouds in rubbish urban backyard setting, without yet properly collimating or focussing it, managed this, which i'm pretty happy about. i really needed to feel utterly miniscule this week. #astro

Since I'm the biggest fan of the #RNLI and also apparently old enough to commission cushions (oh yes), here's 17-29 RNLB Richard Cox Scott which is retiring this month. #lifeboats

So at this point in #AdventOfCode i have as many stars as i have ever reached, so maybe i can safely put this nonsense down now. Or maybe not. I always learn something every year, and learning something is pretty much the point of doing anything ever. Depends on kids.

And weather.
And attitude.

Some people make amazing visualisations of their #AdventOfCode solutions, using methods I can only vaguely fathom. As my own contribution to the genre of alternative puzzle output, here's a non-poem created by grepping out my code comments from yesterday.

Wow. In may 2000 i followed the roadmaking machine into Grindavik, though not knowing that's what it was i tried to pass. That didn't last long! Weird to think that quiet little harbour is even quieter now :(

#Lighthouse lenses are phenomenal things. I might unload a collection here. Fair warning.
