Today's Late and Great:

Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. 1983-1939

The original action star. Plus: Light comedy, the occasional dramatic role, all around talent. Silent screen royalty, married Mary Pickford, "America's Sweetheart". Father of Doug Jr, a star in his own right. Check them both out.

Today's Late and Great:

Wayne Osmond 1951-2025

Singer, musician and songwriter. Played lead guitar with The Osmonds, provided the lower-range harmonies. By all accounts a decent human being and know for his endless supply of corny jokes. The Osmond Family Goofball. Died Jan 1, this year.

Today's Late and Great:

Wallace Reid 1891-1923

Silent Movie Star, better known for his looks, though had some talent as well. Injured on a movie set, the studio gave him morphine, became addicted, died at 32. Still, the legend remains.

Today's Late and Great:

Roman Emperor Hadrian: 76-138

One of the 5 "Good Emperors"

Fell in love with Antinous of Bythinia. Ordered the building of Hadrian's Wall. When Antinous died mysteriously in Egypt, Hadrian had him resurrected as Osiris/Antinous. A cult that lasted over 400 years.

Today's Late and Great:

Mary Wilson: 1944-2021

A Supreme. One of my few female crushes. Known around Motown as "Cool Mary". Yeah. Saw her live in St Louis a few years ago and she brought her A Game. Her autobiography is well worth the read.

Mary Wilson: 1944-2021

A Supreme. Known around Motown as "Cool Mary". One of my few female crushes. Saw her live in the St. Louis area before she died. Of course, she brought the A game. A real treasure.

Today's Late And Great:

Tab Hunter 1931-2018

Actor, Singer and Gay Icon.

His older movies are forgettable for the most part, but I loved him in Lust In The Dust and Polyester 1980's. Hit #1 on the music charts with "Young Love", 1957. Didn't play the game after his peak, a class act.

Today's Late And Great:

Hedy Lamarr: 1914-2000

Actress. Inventor. Gorgeous. None of her movie roles stand out to me but her fierce intelligence does. Invented or co-invented many systems still in use today. Nobody's fool, as her 6 husbands found out.

Today's Late and Great:

Mary Astor 1906-1987

American actress mostly supporting roles. If Bette Davis was a fan you know she was good. My favorite was The Great Lie, with BD herself, Bette told her the script was crap so they basically re-wrote it together.
