From the reports I read, I do not think he mistook asylum seekers for mental asylum patients. He stated repeatedly that mental asylums in South America were intentionally emptied and the patients were sent to the United States. Nobody ever produced or found evidence for this outrageous claim.

Altruistic anger.

Meta, and wise.

This post seems to trivialize real public health issues. An educated public can make rational decisions by weighing risks and benefits. Focusing on cute anecdotes inconsistent with the data is almost as bad as the intentional disinformation efforts of the current administration.

Sure, social contract philosophy is a reasonable way to consider this. Thanks for the response. Yet I live by more than that, perhaps naively.

@rbreich.bsky.social is succinctly stating an opinion consistent with his numerous hopeful posts encouraging people to be active to save our democracy. To me, his words do not seem to be mourning anyone. But he is implying that celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death is not in the interest of democracy.

Bluesky commenters, why can’t we have compassion for the human life that was lost and for the grief of those who loved him? At least point out the connection of this violent act to the positions the victim promoted without vitriol and schadenfreude.

I agree with the conflict of interest theme, and blind trusts would make sense to me. But how does the graph you show compare to a random sampling of 535 similarly educated Americans?

Beautiful! I know about it only from Poldark! 😀

Great post and comments about the concept of white privilege. Many, myself included, benefited from it. 10% of white and 20% of black people in the US. live in poverty. How should whites living in poverty understand the concept? Are they disadvantaged less than poor blacks, yet not privileged?

There are reports that this post attributed to Karoline Leavitt is not an actual post by her. She repeatedly lies for the president and supports his hateful agenda, but we all should be careful when sharing unverified content. MAGA produces enough outrageous and despicable content that is verified.

👍This post is about questioning one’s own assumptions and beliefs underlying one’s own opinions, in good faith. This leads to a solid foundation to reveal the fallacies promoted by evil people who exploit those who do not question their own opinions. Hating the exploited weakens that foundation.

Yes, I am mourning a fair fighter, not a fighter for everything I believe in.

The victims of this tragedy deserve sympathy. Many of them were children!!! Callousness and vitriol in the wake of this tragedy helps MAGA. Trump counts on his detractors to alienate his supporters. You can show compassion AND acknowledge the mistakes made by the victims AND blame the perpetrators.

ETA’s conclusion: “We urge voters and election officials in the state of Pennsylvania to seek additional hand audits of paper voting records from the November 5th, 2024 General Election. We believe there are too many statistical anomalies in this election to not investigate further.”
July 4, 2025 at 3:02 PM
I read carefully ETA’s analyses. I believe their conclusion is reasonable, and a comprehensive investigation called for by ETA can restore the public’s faith in elections. This loss of faith helps authoritarians. I guess you still think there’s no hope for me.

Estimated reduction of uninsured from 18% to 8% as a result of the ACA; isn’t that not nothing? Is there evidence that the insurance companies would have made less money without the ACA? Can you imagine a political movement that would build on the ACA toward your vision of a just system?

I am sorry, but, to me, believing something as “common sense” based on a string of innuendos is exactly what the MAGA movement leaders promote. I believe Trump won in 2024 partly because of the evidence-void “Stop the Steal” campaign, and incessantly lying to get elected is equivalent to cheating.
June 27, 2025 at 5:03 PM
This is about 2016. I believe he won in 2024 fair and square, which is even more sad.
