His name was Kevin. I thought about calling the piece “Kevin” but that would still empower him. He really f’d me up for years and years. But it was the 80s and I guess you were just supposed to deal with it cuz no one was going to help. Not your parents. Not the nuns at school. No one.

That’s the beautiful part about abstraction: it’s definitely an internal experience that gets outed, for better, for worse, for whatever. Then a strange little voice says “show this to the world”. That’s when the veil of control is pierced and the world gets a hint about who you are.
