Western media is so cooked. If you publish a headline that is insufficiently supportive of the genocidal apartheid state Israel, a *board member of your parent company* will pop on Twitter and say that you're a terrorist sympathizer.

When he was captured from Gaza and transferred to the Sde Teiman military detention camp, he was subjected to various forms of torture and inhuman and degrading treatment—methods that are emblematic of Israeli mass arrest operations in Gaza. He reported being forcibly stripped, having his hands tightly shackled, and being made to sit on sharp gravel for approximately five hours by Israeli forces. He was also subjected to severe physical abuse, including beatings with batons and electric shock sticks, as well as repeated blows to the chest. In Ofer Prison, where he was transferred on 9 January 2025, he was held in solitary confinement for 25 days—a period so prolonged as to constitute a form of torture in itself. During this time, he endured nearly continuous interrogation for 10 days. At one point, he lost consciousness in his cell due to severe breathing difficulties. During interrogation, Dr. Abu Safiya was confronted with accusations that he firmly denied, stressing that he is a doctor whose sole duty is to provide medical care to patients and the wounded.

It is an admirable thing, in a politics possessed of a moral floor, to believe one can change the system from the inside, that with enough respectful prodding the establishment can be made to bend, like that famous arc, toward justice. But when, after decades of such thinking, decades of respectful prodding, the condition one arrives at is reticent acceptance of genocide, is it not at least worth considering that you are not changing the system nearly as much as the system is changing you?

Gaza's Ministry of Health, which has been, contrary to genocide denialist propaganda, *much more* conservative with death count estimates than other observers, makes an announcement that the number of deaths from "lack of resources" equals deaths from killings by the IDF.

To satisfy a vain urge to find my writing in a bookstore, I found this stack of the summer issues of F&SF in a B&N. I also found a copy of Poets&Writers featuring an interview with Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha above it. Illogically, it made me happy to see my writing close to his picture.

Abubaker Abed, who has been forced to cover the ongoing genocide of his people, is a football journalist first and foremost.

The apartheid state of Israel should be placed under an arms embargo to stop its genocidal campaign, and so Abubaker can go back to covering football.

Upon arriving at the house packed with terrified people, I could hear their desperate screams for help from the second floor. The moment I stepped inside, the house was bombed again, and dismembered body parts of the wounded flew around me. Rubble crashed down on me and my colleagues; One first responder was killed, and while my colleague and I were injured, many others did not survive.
