This prosecution is an extreme overreach and public outcry can make a difference. Journalists, lawmakers, advocacy groups and regular citizens need to know about this. Sunlight is a powerful disinfectant.

The infamously problematic anti-hacking law from 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act was designed to stop true computer intrusions in a bygone era, yet prosecutors are stretching it to go after political satire in 2025. @EFF has long warned that the CFAA is overly broad and outdated.

Prosecutors aren’t alleging stolen data, damaged systems, national security threats, or financial gain. There was no breach, no sabotage, just a satirical AI video. Not a cybercrime in any meaningful sense.
