as i was typing it out i also realised english does the same thing; people often say things like "an air of mystery" or "put on airs" (which also exists in Japanese as 気取る・きどる!)

its likely related to the meaning of "air"! e.g. 雰囲気・ふんいき "atmosphere", 空気・くうき "air; mood"

the word 風・ふう (lit. "wind") is used in a similar way to mean "method, fashion, style; tendency"

そういう風に - in that way, like that
中華風・ちゅうかふう - Chinese style (food, fashion etc.)
