I took more than four minutes off my half marathon personal best this morning, running a 1:51:47 despite my hamstring acting up a couple kilometres before the finish

As an example, here is a map of the changes to land use in Oak Bay. In a municipality that has only allowed a handful of multidwelling developments in the past few decades, a good fraction of the land that was zoned for only single family housing will now allow low-rise apartments or townhouses

The Symphony Splash was fun - they put the Victoria Symphony on a barge in the Inner Harbour - but getting a bus home less so. Tens of thousands of extra people downtown plus a Sunday night bus schedule is not a great combination

This is such a pretty ferry ride

Granville Island is an eclectic mix - a public market, improv theatre, artisanal shops and a cement plant

Canada Line time. While I mostly now agree with @rmtransit.bsky.social that it was good how cheaply it was built, it still feels a tad under built in places given the number of people using it now

And now for the third bus of the day, another double decker. Now that we are in Metro Vancouver the public transport is run by TransLink, unlike in the rest of the province where BC Transit is the transit agency

Disembarking at Tsawwassen

A sneaky photo of the Queen of Alberni, one of the oldest ferries in the fleet, about to depart and the Salish Eagle about to arrive at Tsawwassen

Approaching Tsawwassen and passing more ferries. No more photos as we get close I am now in the queue to get off the ferry - the queue to disembark becomes the queue to board the bus to the SkyTrain

Going through Active Pass, a narrow channel between two islands with strong currents. Ferries often pass here, in this case the Spirit of British Columbia, the sister ship to the one I am on

Already we can hear the traditional car alarm going off. Odds are it is a BMW

Driving on to a ferry on a coach is cool and all but @milesintransit.com missed the full foot passenger experience including boarding via the overhead walkway

A ferry, the Spirit of Vancouver Island, has appeared a bit late

The new overpass at Keating Cross Road is coming along nicely

The plan is for the highway shoulders to be adapted to allow busses to run on them, allowing them to bypass most of the traffic. This is already mostly in place for the 95 on highway out to Langford with the remaining sections currently being worked on

Douglas serves as the main north south through downtown with all of the busses that go to the Western Communities and the Saanich Peninsula. You can see how many routes use this stop. North of downtown there are bus lanes; planning is underway to extend them through downtown
July 25, 2025 at 8:27 PM
You can see some of the many busses along Douglas which serves as the bus exchange for downtown. Victoria was the first city in North America to use modern double deckers. The 95 in front of us is the relatively new BRT light service between owntown and Langford

After taking a bus from where I live to have brunch with friends, I am taking the bus out to the ferries. Since I got on the first stop, I managed to snag one seats at the front of the upper deck
