Sounds like a great project. But may I ask why stop at 1980?
Wasn't the 1980s Cold War zeitgeist especially dystopian?
Or did you need to make a cut to keep it contained in terms of quantity?

There have already been many great examples mentioned (e.g. Watchmen, Handmaid's Tale, Andor) but I have the feeling the best example is yet to come - Grand Theft Auto 6, set in Florida, could easily be the culmination of the current Zeitgeist...
