3 mares: Toledo (Appie), Tennessee (farm rescue), & Renfri (OTTB) who took some knocks along the way. Finding new life w/ our chronically ill & episodically disabled person & her "foal" Thing 2. (No, that horse flashing hooves is not us but our nemesis.)
Teen was busy doing GCSE English exam.
So Renfri had to tolerate the less fun one.
Teen goes faster. Much. Faster.
When you’re fed up with the world and ready scream and then get on your daughter’s horse and everything seems a little bit better.

Person was FIIIIIIIINE.
Tennessee is just helping her improve her seat.

She should THANK her.

Honestly, humans. Embrace the teaching moments.
“Youuuuu. Bad word. Bad word. Bad word.”

Me, riding the “expressiveness” of the darling below while very young children were having their lessons.

Yes, I managed to censor myself in the moment. I’m more impressed with that than staying in the saddle.

Always clean your dishes…
My mare, Toledo, loves food. Here she is, worshipping her bowl after completing dinner.

The dun mare with her head over the rail is Tennessee. She has her own hay but believes her best friend’s tastes better.

Tennessee has decided Renfri’s jumping saddle is fabulous.
Trying to keep my joints all in line is a challenge in this saddle but I am learning to cope.

Toledo just seems bored by these antics.

Tennessee was brave. She agreed to be ridden without another human in sight. Just had Toledo in the next pen as a babysitter.

Her rider is very grateful Tennessee didn’t buck or spin her off.

Yesterday, Toledo had her 1st show & jumped 70 cm clean.

Amazing.
2 yrs ago she arrived stiff, sore, & out of alignment. Not enough muscle in the back end, 1 front shoulder significantly more developed than the other. Weak spot in her back due to being ridden in a poor fitting saddle.

You can’t see the video here but Tennessee the rescue horse took our person for a canter.

Person is delighted.

Her EDS and fibro etc make it hard to canter. Tennessee is the comfiest, comfy ride anyone could want. Person didn’t hurt at all.

Win!

Ten decided she would be ridden without a saddle today. Seemed to enjoy it, very much.

Renfri is back to work for the first time since Monday’s snake bite incident.
February 24, 2024 at 8:59 AM
Good news doesn't usually come with the words "just a small snake bite" yet here we are.
Yesterday, the grooms woke up to find Ms Renfri with a swollen back leg. Theories were of injured ligament, muscle, or bone chip.

Nope. Apparently if you have to be bit by a snake, she picked a good one.

We going to rename Show jumping to slow jumping.

But person did it.

I (Toledo) even used my head to put her back in her seat when she almost fell.

Because a good horse takes care of their person.
So I did it: my 46 year old #EDS & Fibro butt jump all 11 50cm jumps at a training show.

Did we basically walk it ? Yes.
Did we knock 2 poles & cross our line twice? Yip.
Did I nearly fall off after the 2nd jump? Yep. Do I care?

Nope.

I did it and I’m DELIGHTED.

Tis person.
So today I did a thing.
Toledo and took me over my 1st 60cm jump.

I am 46 years old. I have EDS and fibromyalgia. When I started riding at 40, it was to do something with my youngest. Plus, it looked fun. But I never thought I’d jump. 1/

Renfri is teaching me (Tennessee) to canter.

(Renfri deserves sainthood after today.)

I was good.

(If you count “good” meaning nobody got hurt, sure.)

I. Was. Good.

Our friend Tokyo died yesterday.
A rescue. When he first arrived he was angry.
But a little girl fell in love & he w/ her. He became The Little Engine that Could.
The little girl was generous, allowing him to teach many, such as our person’s foal.
Our hearts go out to his person and family.

We did another thing. I, Tennessee, rode in a ring with only a rider on my back. No person standing there to help if necessary. No other horses to help me feel brace.
I was brave. #RescueHorse

Tennessee: I did my first “big horse” lesson. There were two other riders and their horses.
I was good.
Everyone said so.
I. Was. Good. #RescueHorse

Riding school reopened today & I showed off my new skills.
My best day yet.
A rider I hadn’t seen in a month got on. I listened. My guardian only had to intervene once.
Everyone was so happy
Grooms said congratulations.
Little kids were asking when they get to ride me.
I was magnificent.

Tennessee let the human trim her mane for the first time.
She was very good.
Bonus pic of her perky ears.
January 16, 2024 at 5:32 PM
We were good mares today.

Toledo went on outride and left me ALONE.
(2 humans & Renfri is hardly alone.)
Working ALONE was hard.
(I know.)
So I ate my treats AND Toledo’s.
(Yes, yes you did.)
January 11, 2024 at 1:59 PM
Okay, yes. I was fizzy this morning.
But Tennessee was lonely.
(Reader, she was surrounded by other horses.)
If I go faster we get back to faster.
(No, that’s not how this works.)
You were FINE. You getting better at wonky-fast-trot-canter-wonk-wonk-trottish.
(Not the point.)
It was adventure!

Today, I, Tennessee maintained my desire for singing.

No singing?
I went backwards and shook head.

Will walk forward for singing.

Tis small demand.

Hello,
It is Pascal and Blue.
Toledo, Renfri, and Tennessee are hanging out with the herd today. They also get a day off after spa day.
But they wanted to wish you a happy Saturday.
