Watched "A House of Dynamite" last night and found myself revisiting my 1980s nuclear war nightmares all over again! What made it worse was knowing that the seemingly competent people portrayed in the movie are a LONG way from the fools and lunatics currently running the US asylum!

One thing that is really bugging me about @bsky.app - the almost complete silence about the Gaza genocide and Western nations support for it!

Oh dear - went back to check on the history of energy consumption and its worse than I thought - fossil fuels still rule OK - little change in % of global energy consumption since the 1970s (85%)! Happy to be corrected by those more experienced with energy stats: ourworldindata.org/grapher/glob...

Enjoying the transition to BlueSky and the engagement with fellow #climatechange focused peeps! When I'm not working on grim climate stuff I enjoy getting out and photographing landscapes and oceans (christopher-wright.smugmug.com). Here's a shot from last night not far from home.

We researched about how business and govts have ignored the real cause of coral bleaching on the GBR (hint: fossil fuel extraction and use) and then spun it as solvable via 'resilience' and other BS. Today's AIMS report highlights nothing has changed: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Given the current impasse at COP, Trump's doubling down on fossil fuels etc, a quote from our book "Organising Responses to Climate Change" about the disconnect between corporate and political discourse and the material reality of a worsening climate crisis: www.amazon.com.au/Organising-R...

As the world pivots to authoritarianism and liberal democracy is snuffed out, next year looks a lot like a mix of "Children of Men" and "Handmaid's Tale" - dystopia on steroids!

In the conclusion to our book we noted (citing Gramsci) that in the climate interregnum three future scenarios were likely - with Trump’s re-election it looks like Caesarism wins out!

Yeh one of my faves too. Billy's famous "I am a Golden God!" exclamation is credited to Robert Plant atop the Continental Hyatt West Hollywood (Riot House) in 1975 after the release of their double album "Physical Graffiti". Had to stay there once just to soak up the rock n'roll vibe!
