An SMS poll. Most polls aren’t done by SMS.That’s not coming from me, that’s coming from pollsters like Kos Samaras. The mood is changing is my point. And conservatives don’t like it. It won’t be on Jan 26 forever, and until then, less and less organisations will celebrate it. As we see year on year

Prior to 1935, 26 Jan was known as First Landing Day or Foundation Day in Aus states & territories, but from 1935 onwards all jurisdictions used the name Australia Day to mark the date. It was not consistently celebrated as a public holiday across Aus until 1994

Do have any polling or surveys to back up your claim? Older generations agree with yours. Conservative boomers. Gen Z’s and millennial’s who are soon to be the largest voting block agree with me. And Australia is extremely multicultural now, with only 33 % having an ancestry connection to England

Last year with Woolies. When that wasn’t even a stance. That was because the stock wasn’t selling. And the right wing media, the Liberal Party and trolls raged. They bring this on. Knox council as well canceling. They raged over that. Cricket Australia. Tennis Australia. They raged over that as well

But it also important to acknowledge that it is a day of hurt. So in my opinion it’s disrespectful to celebrate it on Jan 26. It has only been a national public holiday on Jan 26 since 1993. It always gets politicised by right wing media. Let organisations choose if they want to celebrate or not.

Mmmbut still, they just won’t put emphasis on the day. I am part of hospitality and the live music scene. Every year there are less & less events or gigs put on for this day. It’s dying. In Australia only 33 per cent of the population has an ancestral connection to England.
