I think this is very reasonable and proper for everyone to do. Focus efforts on the government closest at hand.

But I focus my greatest efforts on political activity within my city. Medium levels of effort are placed on activity within my state. And lowest levels are placed on political activity within the nation as a whole - pretty much just voting.

I grew up in Maryland and live in Massachusetts. My family and co-workers live in Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. They're dear people to me. Some of them I will discuss politics with, and others I will cordially "not talk about politics" with.
