I beg to differ, mark. to avoid talking about JW, here's a related example. I have no problem accepting that some people consider pablo neruda a wonderful poet. I have loved many of his poems for decades. but I can't and don't read them anymore since I read his "odes to stalin."

yes, that's how I understand it.
and: understood it when I first saw it in the centre pompidou museum in paris in the mid-80s. and as I was staring at it, it occurred to me how I would reflect on my own role as observer.
