Not huge news to anyone but me, but my first textbook is finally in print:

I haven't always seen completely eye to eye with @freepress.bsky.social, but we're usually on the same city block at least.

But the idea that people (like me for example) haven't been screaming about Brendan Carr's plans for censorship for years extends that block party we attend together a mile.

I'll let the data speak for itself.

I'd just like to say as the OG Member of the Brendan Carr Sucks Club, its great to see everybody finally showing up at the party I've been throwing for the last 2962 days.

Welcome.

I really don't think we're talking about this paragraph enough:

Here's the summary from the decision.

There's only one correct answer.

The FCC finally responded to my Feb 1st FOIA about Carr's attack letter to NPR. Most was redacted, and I'm sure some things were left out, but there was this curious email exchange as the letter was being prepared.

Not sure what to make of it. Maybe if the rest of the email chain had been included?

I woke up today thinking on FSC v. Paxton, and some part of my brain went to this paragraph.

Is this just rhetorical flair, or is Thomas calling Pornhub a "publisher" here?

And if they are a publisher, was there part of this decision, in draft form that also asked questions about §230?

Pages 26-27.

Basically the internet is faster, video streams to phones and more people use it and..."The Court in Reno and Ashcroft II could not have conceived of these developments, much less conclusively resolve how States could address them"

I wonder if the discussion to overturn Reno occurred, but couldn't get the votes:

Want to know what broadcast media was like in the lead up to the Iraq War?

Here's a copy of the Mcvay Media War Manual, which was literally pinned to the wall of the Clear Channel newsroom I worked in at the time.

"Take ownership of the branding..."

Hmmmm....

Very curious since we're about to give half of the "Biden Broadband Bucks" to Musk.

Carr knew even before he went on the air the next day.

The FOIA shows that he confirmed the compliance. He even sent the producers at Fox copies of the relevant documents before the interview.

I've been teaching and researching media policy for over 20 years, and I have never seen a more succinct explanation for how we managed to fuck up our system of mass communication more than this headline: broadbandbreakfast.com/verizon-ends...

Diversity has always been an obstacle to consolidation.

At MKE is my favorite bookstore. Just popped in and blind bought a banned book from the display.

Guesses on what's inside?

If you're referring to the Vox story about this, you'll notice they likely based that story on this page from SCOTUSBLOG: www.scotusblog.com/cases/case-f...

A trip to that page will show you this:

Back in February when FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson went ape-shit over the American Bar Association, I filed a FOIA. Today, after two followups, the agency sent my response: two copies of his letter and these emails.

Basically...Nothing to see here....comrade citizen!
