Always enjoy adding a Rachel Bright book to our at home collection. It’s now passing onto Hannah now that Harris is getting older too.

Had the day off today to attend an appointment with my son Harris. So will maybe get a bit more time with this. Have to admit, it’s not grabbed me as much as I’d hoped.

Our book thread is now up on our Facebook book group.

Laidlaw by William McIlvanney.

I thought it was a good quality Scottish crime novel. I liked Laidlaw as a character, someone with a lot of discover about.

It depicted what I'd imagine to be an accurate description of the underworld society.

Every year when the clocks change, Facebook Business Suite can’t handle the scheduling. It’s impossible to type the 1 for 19:00 or 18:00 etc. How can they not know how to code this?

So after a woefully poor spell of not getting a book read. I finally finished this one today for our Facebook Book Group. It’s a sad and hard-hitting read but definitely worth a look.

Not the sight you want to see when you’ve got graphic editing to do! 😭

Featherweight | Mick Kitson

Rating | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Enjoyed discovering the story of the main character Annie. The book is well written with interesting characters throughout. She is sold to Bill Perry, a well known boxer, and learns the trade too.

An enjoyable read.

Real Gone Kid | Kate Fridriks

Rating | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really enjoyed Aileen’s story of growing up in the Ravenscraig area. Relationships, music and sectarianism is all explored in a very relatable way.

All the characters are very well written.

A great read.

Chatting about #Lorcana cards and #Pokemon cards recently makes me wish I could create a library event around them but I just don’t think it works for my online setting.
#NewmainsLib does have a Pokemon Club.

To The Dogs | Louise Welsh

Rating | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve been a Louise Welsh fan for a long time and this new book doesn’t disappoint.

A story of how far you will go to protect family when they get themselves in trouble and how ghosts of the past can come back to haunt.

Top read.

It’s the last day of 2023. These were my two favourite reads of the year.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
Empire of Black and Gold by Adrian Tchaikovsky

What was yours?

I think it’s finally time.

My next read will be The Labyrinth of the Spirits by the brilliant and hugely missed Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

I might be a while.
