The Fed directly sets the short-term rate it lends to banks (discount rate) and targets the rates banks charge each other. They influence rates consumers see, but ultimately rates are set by the market. If banks see greater risk in making loans/mortgages, they will charge higher rates.

Well, we've seen at least one name come up a lot in the last tranche of released emails.

Trump's cognitive decline is on full display all the time. His people couldn't keep him away from cameras if they tried. There's no investigative reporting to do. The people who voted for him either didn't pay attention to anything or just didn't care.

So, this is a quote from multiple pollsters? And in all-caps no less?

I refuse to give up 👍to him. We already lost 👌to his allies.

I think we can drop the quotation marks around Kavanaugh stop. Not necessary at this point. It should be an unqualified part of the lexicon at this point.

Where's this picture from. At least in DC, the Nat'l Guard folks I've seen had no masks and seemed friendly enough. I'm assuming anyone wearing a mask in this capacity is game for misbehaving.

Perhaps there's a silver lining here. Eventually the new owners may be subject to right wing conspiracy theories when THEIR machines don't provide the "correct" results. If they continue to produce quality machines that can survive the vetting process by countless jurisdictions.

The Atlantic's site seems to be down. It's not the link.

This tracks. By most accounts, the crowds are very pro-Trump.

And exactly how will the tariffs "kick in" to the farmers benefit?

Interesting that he compares open skies agreements with trade agreements, which his boss has ignored and torn to shreds.

She must really love him. To go to the trouble of finding a picture where he looks stoned rather than foaming at the mouth.

Didn’t the appeals court just throw out the remedy for being excessive but NOT the finding of guilt?

As a Gen Xer, I never heard of Baby Shark until it became the de facto Washington Nationals fight song during its 2019 World Series run. I now know it well, and it only brings back good memories.

"[A]pproximately 400 state and federal law enforcement personnel raided the battery plant" to apprehend "four Mexican nationals as 'targeted persons.'" The absurdity of the entire operation aside, that's DOGE-level efficiency there.

Happy to see Terriers and Firefly getting a lot of love here. Firefly has since gotten the recognition it deserves. But Terriers was severely underrated then and now.

I once listened to Adam Carolla's podcast daily for 6-7 years. I believe it was in 2016 when he used this sort of justification for Tucker Carlson, something along the lines of, "All I know is that he's good to me...." I haven't listened or followed since.
