Watching #HeatedRivalry press highlights the "Default vs. Genre" problem. We say "Gay Love Story" but never "Straight Love Story."

One is treated as the standard, the other as a sub-category. True equality is when the adjective disappears. Or do labels help?

While the internet is dark in Iran, stories are the only signal we have. I'm re-visiting "Darius the Great is Not Okay." It’s a vital reminder of the people, the culture, and the beauty that is currently under siege.

Witnessing is active work. Don't look away.

Spotted this on the wall at my salon. "Graffiti keeps rent low. Keep that sh*t up." A valid economic theory? Discuss.

This text I received from a friend made my night: “I want to tell you how much joy it brings me to see you back behind the microphone and out doing what I know you love ❤️ Keep going!”

Field Note: Spotted in Petaluma: A "Rock Snake" asking strangers to help it grow.

I’ve been thinking about community this week. Whether it's at a funeral or on a sidewalk, connection is just about showing up and adding your stone to the line.

I’m skipping the 2025 highlight reel.

After losing six people in two years, grief didn't reset with the calendar. But my lens has shifted and I see the world differently.

So I'm reporting on it and I'm calling it "Field Notes."

Attending a funeral today. Not the way the year should end for anyone. So much loss over the last two years. I’m glad I’m here to support my friend.

Until the #StrangerThings finale arrives, I’m starting a rewatch of #Firefly. It’s like a comfy blanket and hanging with friends.

While I am ready for things to slow down, I am cranking out PR pitches, scheduling interviews, working a contract gig and still trying to get ready for Christmas. I am so ready for a long break. Anyone else? #toobusy #holidaybreak

I saw Rental Family last night. It was thoughtful, endearing, quiet, expressive and definitely worth the time. Even the row of children (yes, kids at this movie) sat quietly the entire time. I guess we all enjoyed it. #movies

While folks are getting into the holiday spirit, I just wanna watch LOTR. Anyone else?

Pausing the holiday prep to share some joy.

Pouring my energy into building @differentnessco.bsky.social & recording the new season of My Big Story with Christopher Swan.

Chasing that public radio aesthetic — high-end polish, kitchen table vibe. Grateful to be back.

Morning plans postponed. So I made buttermilk, lemon blueberry pancakes and bacon for brekky on a drizzly, grey Sunday morning. Delicious and hit the spot.

I voted, here in CA. Yes on 50! Not getting my hopes up, but I hope this can help block some of the BS the regime is producing. #vote #yeson50

I had a dream I was driving through a mountain road covered in water, the ground disappeared and as my car submerged, I calmed myself, unbuckled my seatbelt and swam out and went to work. I then drove to the Paris airport to fly home, missing a chance to selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower. What?!

Worked remote for 11 years and rarely got sick. Started a new gig 3 weeks ago, required to be in the office once a week and I already caught something. Ridiculous.

I added more variety this year for the trick-or-treaters. I’ve include full size candies, snack items and toys. Each kid gets to choose two items. This way kids get things they really want and works around food allergies. #halloween

Big day. Moving the boyfriend into my place, which becomes our place. It was just two years ago this month when we randomly met for a group hike and now we’re shacking up together. This adventure keeps getting bigger.

Downside of switching contract gigs regularly, especially when switching consulting companies: you have to take security and sexual harassment training over and over again — at the consulting company and at the client. And they are never not boring.

First day at a new gig. It’s remote except one day a week when I commute 2.5 hours in the car, each way. Today was that day. Exhausting.

Over the last 3 days, I have been sitting in my home office working feverishly on my new biz — so much sitting that my ass actually hurts. It's all fun and games until your ass hurts, fellas. 😬😆

That's a wrap. My work contract ended today. I'm taking a little time off and I am very lucky to be starting another gig soon. I feel thankful for the last gig, relieved to have another (the job market stinks!), and excited to be building my own biz as a longterm career goal. Let's go!
