You are viewing a layer, imagine a printed paper map that you are sliding around--you can't turn on/off objects bc it's prerendered. You can pick a different layer style (cycling, humanitarian etc) or you could view the data in an app that lets you customize like Organic maps or Osmand

Which app are you using? Here's a screenshot from Organic Maps which uses Openstreetmap data and clearly labels the gulf as gulf of Mexico. I see your location is in the US, so your app might be geofencing you and serving the USGS name, per US law

In Lansing, 90% of the residential land is detached single family housing, Lansing would do well to allow gentle density like ADUs, duplexes, missing middle stuff to ease demand. Large lots with small capacity are inefficient land use
