Penstemon strictus- Rocky Mountain Penstemon - seedling. One of many popping in my early spring garden. Eventually sends up stalks of purpley-blue blossoms that native bees love.

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi “kinnickinnik” - marvelous native groundcover plant with little evergreen leaves and tiny pink blooms in the spring. Plant native plants!

Geum triflorum - prairie smoke. Blooms in April. Native to the western United States and most of the Great Lakes area. Lovely pinkish red flowers with a fluffy seed head that stays on through summer. Grows and spreads slowly but surely.

Palmer’s penstemon - Penstemon palmerii
Gets 3’ tall with a profusion of light pink blooms in June and July that feed bumblebees. Leaves turn red in fall and stay on through the winter.

Monarda fistulosa- bee balm. Gets 4’ tall and blooms loads of delicate lavender flowers. Supports many species of native bees.

Agastache - a genus with many species native to the southwest United States. Naturally repels grasshoppers and other hungry bugs. Blooms cantaloupe orange to fuchsia pink from July through first frost. Supports hummingbirds, moths, butterflies, and many species of native bees.
