A two-headed coin.
Isn’t it the perfect symbol of Trumpian politics?
Heads, I win. Heads, I win. Again.
Yes, the odds are forever stacked against you!

It’s election time for the Liberal Democrats!
For those of you with a vote in this election, my friend @kamhussain.bsky.social is running for Vice President of the party and I hope you’ll give him your support!

We’ve gotten to the point where Trump can float the idea of circumventing the US constitution, and it’s still only Headline #10 in the New York Times.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this President is planning to stick around after 2028.

Very proud to be one of many Londoners supporting @kamhussain.bsky.social for Vice President of the Liberal Democrats!

This is headline #7 on the @nytimes.com app right now.

The situation in the US has gotten so bad that this story is nowhere near the top of my screen.

I’m delighted to be one of many, many people who are supporting @kamhussain.bsky.social to be the next Vice President of the LibDems. He’s been campaigning since 1997 and has long been a force for good.

If you have a vote in this election, please give him your support too.

UK universities are a key engine of innovation and economic growth for the country.

If the UK government doesn’t fix the fundamentals of the university sector, all of the knowledge capital that we’ve built up will waste away.

I’ve been very careful about using the F word.

💣 Fascism is a potent idea.

💥 As a scholar, I never want to dilute its power and intention.

🇺🇸 I have never used it in relation to US politics.
Until now.

The US is NOT a fascist state.
YET.

But it is clearly marching in that direction.

Discuss.

Never thought I’d agree so vehemently with Ted Cruz. But there you go…

First, Israel strikes INSIDE Qatar- a US ally, no less- to target Hamas - who they are in the middle of NEGOTIATING with.

Today, Putin is probing the boundaries of NATO, to see what he can get away with.

We should view both actions as tests of Trump’s red lines.

So interesting and unexpected…
Political apathy starts early.
Which means that if we want to maintain vibrant democracies, we need to teach kids to care about politics and the world at a much much earlier age.

This is a naked power grab.

Be alert to a future seizure of power (eg martial law, 3rd term presidency, shutting down/taking over media outlets).
Controlling National Guard & DC police will allow him to “pacify” demonstrators if they take to the streets.

A critical part of the argument on school exclusions that’s under appreciated: it’s hard for kids to continue in a school where your bully or abuser makes your day-to-day existence a misery.

You don’t get cooperation from other countries on CT or critical minerals without respect and a stable diplomatic relationship.

If Africans see you as unreliable + you’ve withdrawn all aid + you’ve got nothing to offer, then what’s the incentive to cooperate with the US instead of China or Russia?

We’re going to see a lot of more of this headline in the next few years:
Country X is Finding Ways to Replace American Y

Today it’s China and US farmers.
Tomorrow it’ll be Europe and US natural gas or Mexico and US pharmaceuticals.

US is no longer a stable trading or security partner.

From Thomas Sipp’s resignation letter when he left Skadden 👏🏻👏🏽👏🏿

The US needs more Thomas Sipps right now.

The UK left the EU partly because Farage convinced Leave voters that we couldn’t control our own borders.

In fact, Brexit has made our borders LESS secure.

We’ve lost access to EU fingerprint & asylum databases to check who has already been rejected by the EU.
