A framed colour copy of Warner Sallman’s ‘Head of Christ’ (we were staunch Methodists), a pendulum wall clock my mother wound every Saturday, and a generic woods-and-water landscape (signature ‘E Wood’) that my parents had purchased with their first sofa. No wonder I craved something more…
