PSA:
if you’re feeling overwhelmed and need to reset…watch a few episodes of the Big Bang Theory. I haven’t laughed out loud this much since 2021.
Tip: start at season 1

This sweet girl had several teeth removed last week, and she’s been sore and sad despite the best drugs.
She turned a corner today, back to her silly, playful self. She instigated chasing games with her sisters — my heart is full.

Happy place.

(It’s -20* C here today, which is -4* F — too cold to stay out for very long.)

We also have places near Ottawa (like Countryside Adventures) that offer loads of ice trails through beautiful woodlands.

This is a Leafcutter bee — a solitary, non-aggressive bee. The females cut a small semicircle of leaf, lay an egg on the cutting, pack the egg with pollen, roll it all up, seal the ends with clumps of chewed-up leaf, and then find a crevice/hole/etc. in concrete/ground/trees/etc. to build a nest. 1/

“I've always been more into butterflies than birds, tbh. Find me where the butterflies flutter?”

Monarch? Nope!

It’s a Viceroy butterfly — you can tell the Viceroy by the single black horizontal line that goes from one hindwing across to the other. Viceroys don’t migrate south as monarchs do; the last generation each year overwinter as tiny caterpillars safe under the snow in curled up leaves.

A more cooperative Hummmingbird moth, this time enjoying the nectar of our garden phlox.

Hummingbird? Nope!
It’s a Hummingbird Clearwing Moth — a magical moth that, together with bats and hummingbirds, are the only winged species that eat as they hover. Most moths are nocturnal; they’re active at night — but Hummingbird moths are active during the day and rest at night. Bonus for us!
