Lens 7: Persona Interrogation 🤖

An embodied AI partner—tutor, coach, therapist, creative collaborator. Focuses on depth over speed, building continuity through memory and consistent character. You can inspect, modify, delete memories in real-time.

Lens 6: Signal Monitoring 🚨

High-volume event streams where milliseconds count. AI classifies signals, executes pre-authorized responses, escalates edge cases. Critical for fraud detection, incident response, industrial safety—anywhere rapid response matters.

Lens 5: Ecosystems Exploration 🌐

Complex systems as dynamic causal graphs. You adjust parameters and watch ripple effects unfold. AI reveals downstream impacts and high-leverage intervention points. Suitable for supply chains, climate modeling, epidemiology.

Lens 4: Landscape Generation 🗺️

Knowledge becomes explorable terrain. Topics cluster together, similarity creates distance, zoom changes detail level. AI scouts promising areas while you navigate. Perfect for research databases, drug discovery, any vast information space.
June 27, 2025 at 1:12 AM
Lens 3: Goal Planning 🎯

Organize work around outcomes in a strategic hierarchy. You set the high-level goals, AI suggests sub-goals and execution plans. Every metric connects back to what actually matters. Works beautifully for OKRs and strategy management.

Lens 2: Process Completion ⚡

Workflows become living playbooks instead of static checklists. Clear swim lanes show what’s human-only, AI-only, or collaborative. Great for CI/CD pipelines, CRM workflows, approvals—AI handles routine work, you handle the decisions.

Lens 1: Artifact Creation 🎨

Turn any creative surface into a collaborative workspace. You write, AI does inline generation and refactoring. GitHub Copilot is a perfect example—intelligence woven directly into the creative process.

Intelligent Interfaces are built on four layers that work together:

🧠 Intelligence Layer (language, vision, world models)
📚 Knowledge Layer (structured data)
⚙️ Automation Layer (workflows & integrations)
🎛️ Interface Layer (collaboration lenses)

🧵 The @ycombinator.com.web.brid.gy talk by @karpathy.bsky.social had a great insight about “partial autonomy”—humans and AI working together, each bringing unique strengths. We’ve been working on Seven Lenses to help designers build these collaborative interfaces.

Key insight from last Thursday’s “Human-Centered Design in a Machine-Centered Future” panels organized by IDEO SF and TEDAI:

Design matters.

Instead of changing our definitions of art, culture, and society to fit the AI narrative, we can shape our relationship with AI.

Another experiment—dynamic flocking swarm algorithm with emergent behavior.

This one took only 2 prompts.

vibecoding keeps getting better.

Experimenting with @figma.com Make—built this interactive 3D globe mapping the 250 largest cities by population and GDP.

Just a few prompts and it nailed the visual style I was going for. The speed of iteration on complex #dataviz is honestly wild 🌍

The real opportunity isn’t another input method or device.

It’s fundamentally reorienting interfaces around collaboration—where AI amplifies human creativity and judgment rather than replacing it.

That’s the paradigm shift: from operating AI to thinking with AI.

But here's where I disagree with the #ZeroUI narrative:
Visual interfaces aren't disappearing. They’re becoming multimodal.

At @schemadesign.com we’re exploring #IntelligentInterfaces that respond to intent, not just commands, and adapt seamlessly across voice, gesture, context, and visual.I

Jony Ive talks about 3 major modalities in computing history:

- Command line
- GUI (mouse, folders, windows)
- Mobile (voice, multitouch, gestures, haptics)

Any other forms we’ve seen are just “tributaries.”

Now he’s betting on a fourth.

From a developer’s perspective, interfaces have become increasingly abstracted from source code.

Yet paradoxically, every UI evolution has reduced layers of abstraction for humans, getting us closer to directly manipulating content vs. wrestling with the machine.
May 30, 2025 at 12:34 AM
Jony Ive and Sam Altman are building “quiet” AI hardware that could introduce computing’s fourth modality which some are also thinking of as ZeroUI.

But the real shift isn’t about eliminating interfaces—it’s about evolving from AI as a tool to AI as a thinking partner.

Excited to be here at #Config2025! Just saw the introduction of Figma Make, a vibe coding integration via Claude 3.7 Sonnet that can generate interactive prototypes from designs. Amazing new features coming!

In a Bloomberg interview today, Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy gets it right: "any visual interface...has a better version powered by AI."

This is why @schemadesign.bsky.social is pioneering #IntelligentInterfaces that harness #AI to amplify human ingenuity.

The future of #UX design is AI-native.

The next generation of interfaces will blend natural language and visual metaphors, creating experiences that feel intuitive and human. This will radically simplify how we understand complex data.
December 25, 2024 at 3:48 AM
LLMs, agents, and spatial intelligence demand a fundamental reimagining of digital interfaces. Simply layering AI onto yesterday's tools isn't enough — we need to rethink how humans and AI work together.
December 25, 2024 at 3:48 AM
Every day, we generate more data than previous generations saw in decades. While AI offers unprecedented power to make sense of it all, we lack the tools and interfaces needed to harness its full potential.
December 25, 2024 at 3:48 AM
As we close out 2024, we at @schemadesign.bsky.social have been reflecting on and refining our vision for the future of AI tools — simple, powerful interfaces designed to unlock meaning from complex data.

Here's our vision for what's next...
