I just finished up a small field recording bag! 🎤

I wanted something I could take with me on a hike/to a park that wasn't too heavy that I could capture some quick sounds on. Super stoked with how it came out!

Thanks for reading these past two absolutely massive threads to those who did!

On to the next adventure!

Now, if you do this the sane way, where you just want to catch all of the Pokemon possible and not necessarily from the original game/generation, I would definitely suggest that!

Here's everything youd need for that.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
Absolutely not.

The amount of games needed and having to buy from eBay becuase these games no longer exist at retailers, the systems needed, the amount of time that I could have spent doing literally anything else is by no means an unsubstantial amount.

Here's everything I needed.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
And the one I finished today:

Sword/Shield + DLCs - Shiny Keldeo
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
They even give you cool Pokemon for doing this too!

Sword/Shield + DLCs - Shiny Meloetta
Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee - Shiny Meltan (why isn't it Mew??)
Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl - Shiny Manaphy
Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Shiny Enamorous

And gamers, I did it. Every Pokedex, completed.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
Now, you might be thinking this is where it ends.

However, when I went to go appreciate my progress in the phone-app-version of Pokemon Home, I noticed a fun other tab that had something else.

Game-specific Pokedexes.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
For having a Living Dex in Home, you even get a special-colored Magearna as a bonus (:
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
After getting the diplomas in the Gen 9 game, it was time to transfer all the Pokemon back into Pokemon Home to finish this all up.

And so I present to you, a completed "Living-Origin Dex", where I have a Pokemon for each entry, and they all come from the games they were introduced in.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
(Gen 9 Diplomas)

(Gen 8 Diplomas)
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
The issue? If you can believe it, two Pokemon in Gen 9 were locked behind a timed event that ended in May of 2024.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
So when I say that Gens 6/7 went by so fast I hardly remember them, just know that COMBINED the amount of Pokemon I needed to catch from them was only four more than Gen 5 at 160.

These games were also the first 3DS-Era games and with that came a TON of optimization, which meant easier catching!
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
So while I transferred all of the Pokemon over to Gen 4 the "intended" way (which I think we can all agree is lame - 22 real world days dude? come on), transferring all of the from Gen 4 to Gen 5 took MINUTES.

So I completed that Pokedex as well!
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
This thing is a piece of hardware made for reading GBA cartridge data. With this I could safely backup my Gen 3 Pokemon games, but also put that save data into a software called PKHeX.

(picture not mine, I'm too cozy on my couch to go to my desktop)
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
I then found a MUCH simpler way to transfer Pokemon over which could have saved me a lot of time (and money) which is a piece of computer software and this fun little guy here.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
So with that issue out of the way, I went through and recaught all the Pokemon in Gens 3 and 4, including going through the process of transferring over all of the Gens 1 and 2 Pokemon to complete those Pokedexes for the first time.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
The same issue was present with the DS-Era games, with the solution being relatively the same! Just needed a different cartridge to fit a different slot.

Some folks might see this as cheating, which it technically is.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
Having this cart also allowed me to "inject" the event items into my game as all all of the distributions were on specially made games for these kinds of things.

(Picture is not mine, these things go for THOUSANDS of dollars, no joke)
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
This was of course a bummer, but recently a new piece of software was developed to allow the previously-impossible task of transferring Pokemon from a Gen2 game to a Gen3 game.

Doing this required a special flash cart made for GBA, so I went ahead a picked that up.
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
I decided that I didn't like solution. After sleeping on it for a week, I came up with a new solution:

Just do it the hard way.

So I bought the DSi.
(There was a pretty good deal on eBay)
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
First things first, remember this issue and the solution?
February 18, 2025 at 7:14 AM
Ya boi pulled a god pack of the new Pokémon TCG Pocket set!! Spoilers ahead if you don’t want to see cool cards!

I'll make another post when I'm done with this near Sisyphean task I've put myself on, hopefully there will be fewer problems moving forward from here!
