In addition to my efforts to support Israel, I have been fighting against the rise in anti-Semitism we have seen across America. Shortly after October 7, I led a letter, along with all my New York Republican colleagues, to the New York State Education Department and Board of Regents regarding an anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist video that was published for children. This video was antithetical to New Yorkers' strong support for Israel, and our state educational agencies should never elevate content such as this. You can read this letter here. Additionally, I have sent multiple letters to Cornell University in response to Cornell Professor Russell Rickford's comments that the invasion of Israel was "exciting" and "exhilarating." These heinous comments "demonstrate no regard whatsoever for humanity," as former Cornell President Martha Pollack phrased it. I have urged Cornell to immediately fire Professor Rickford for his disgraceful behavior. Finally, I am gravely concerned that the leaders of Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the University of Pennsylvania were unable to unequivocally state that calling for a genocide of the Jewish people would violate their schools' code of conduct during a House Education and Workforce Committee hearing. In addition to calling for these leaders to resign, I sent a letter to nine colleges and universities in and surrounding our area asking the same question: "Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate your school's code of conduct?" I am glad to report that all nine schools answered with an unequivocal yes. Furthermore, I wholeheartedly believe that anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism. Zionism is the belief that the Jewish people have the right to self-determination in their ancestral homeland, while making no statement on the final boundaries of this state, nor does it deny the possibility of a Palestinian state. Denying the Jewish people the right to live in their homeland is anti-Semitic. That is why I was thrilled to vote for H.Res. 894, Strongly condemning and denouncing the drastic rise of antisemitism in the United States and around the world. This resolution resolves that the House of Representatives clearly and firmly states that anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism. Further, I am honored to have cosponsored H.R. 1007, the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2025, which requires the Department of Education to take into consideration the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of anti-Semitism when investigating anti-Semitic acts. This definition is the most comprehensive definition in use and includes anti-Zionism in its definition. Further, you may be interested to know that I introduced H.R. 902, the RECOGNIZING Judea and Samaria Act. This bill requires all official United States documents and materials to use the term "Judea and Samaria" instead of the "West Bank.” I also launched the Friends of Judea and Samaria Caucus to raise awareness of the region’s historical, strategic, and cultural significance to both Israel and the United States. Please know that I will remain steadfast in my unequivocal support for Israel's self-defense and its fight to eradicate radical Palestinian terrorism once and for all. The bond between the United States and Israel must be ironclad, and I will always fight to make sure it stays that way. Israel, as the only democracy in the Middle East, is one of America's greatest friends and a longstanding ally. I strongly supported President Donald Trump's decision to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem - something many politicians promised but never followed through on. I also fully backed his decision to cease our participation in the deeply flawed Iran nuclear deal. Rest assured that I will also continue to lead the fight in Congress to ensure that the United States maintains maximum pressure on the regime in Iran until it agrees to a comprehensive deal that is meaningful and addresses the full range of threats Iran poses to international peace and security. Thank you for contacting me regarding the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. I appreciate your views on this matter and always welcome the opportunity to respond to your concerns. It’s a privilege to represent you in Congress, where I will continue to be a compassionate and tenacious advocate for New York’s 24th Congressional District.  As you know, on October 7, Iran-backed Hamas terrorists from Gaza launched a barbaric invasion of Israel where they brutalized, tortured, raped, kidnapped, and murdered thousands of Israeli civilians, including American citizens. More than 1,000 Hamas terrorists, including at least seven United Nations employees, entered Israel from Gaza and breached Israeli towns and villages, where they committed unspeakable acts of horrific violence against innocent civilians of all ages. Countless appalling videos of this assault have been released, and I am heartbroken for the American and Israeli families whose lives have been forever changed by these Iran-backed terrorists. The terrorists returned to Gaza with more than 250 Hostages, including 10 Americans. I unequivocally support Israel's continued right to self-defense, its fight to eradicate radical Palestinian terrorism once and for all. That is why just days after October 7, I introduced H.R. 6018, the "Operation Swords of Iron" Supplemental Appropriations Act. This bill would have appropriated additional funds for Israel's Iron Dome defense system. On April 20, 2024, I also voted for H.R. 8034, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. This bill provided Israel with $26.38 billion in much-needed emergency funding for additional resources needed to defend itself against the horrific and unprecedented attacks by Hamas. The bill also included funding to replace missile defense system interceptors used to repel Hamas rocket attacks and the brutal Iranian missile and drone attacks to keep civilians safe. This bill was signed into law as part of H.R. 815 on April 24, 2024. I have long been a leader in Congress on fighting to prevent a nuclear Iran. Iran has threatened numerous times that if it obtains a nuclear weapon, it fully intends to use it against both the United States and Israel. I have led the charge on encouraging our E3 allies, the UK, France, and Germany, to invoke snapback sanctions on Iran, which would reinstate all UN sanctions on Iran's nuclear program, as well as its UAV facilities and ballistic missiles. I have sent numerous letters to our E3 allies and introduced H.Res. 139, Calling on the United Kingdom, France, and Germany (E3) to initiate the snapback of sanctions on Iran under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015). Additionally, I have led the charge in encouraging other countries to join the United States in designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. The IRGC is the Iranian government's extramilitary arm that facilitates its terrorist activities both in Iran and throughout the world. In June 2024, as a result of my efforts, Canada joined the U.S. in designating the IRGC. In the 118th Congress, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed my resolution H.Res. 288, the Encouraging the EU to DESIGNATE Resolution, which urged the EU to join the U.S. in designating the IRGC as a terrorist entity. As a result of Israel's tremendous success on the battlefield, Iran's regional terrorist allies have been crippled. Hamas has been decimated, Hezbollah has been crippled, the al-Assad regime collapsed in Syria, and the Houthis have been weakened. Iran, through the IRGC, has funded, armed, trained, and shared intelligence with these terrorists that not only threatened Israel, but the United States as well. As Iran continued to move closer towards successfully developing a nuclear weapon and enriching enough uranium to build dozens of bombs in a matter of weeks, Israel took action by eliminating terrorist leaders in Iran and demolishing much of Iran's air defenses, nuclear sites, and conventional capabilities. These actions not only eliminated threats to Israel, but also to the United States and U.S. military personnel in the region. That is why I introduced H.Res. 521, Standing with Israel as it works to dismantle Iran's nuclear enrichment capabilities and defends itself against Iranian attacks on civilians. This resolution commended Israel for its actions against Iran and showed the House of Representatives' support for Israel as Iran retaliated by targeting civilians instead of military targets. However, a few of Iran's top nuclear sites were only accessible via U.S. weaponry and U.S. systems. Most notably, the Fordow Uranium Enrichment Plant is located so far beneath the surface that only special U.S. bunker-busting bombs, which can only be dropped by U.S. bombers, can reach these sites. From the outset of President Trump's term, he made it clear that he sought a diplomatic solution that would prevent Iran from any enrichment. However, Iran refused to seriously come to the negotiating table, and as such, President Trump boldly took military action to keep the United States safe by launching U.S. strikes against the nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. President Trump was fully within his Constitutional authority as Commander-in-Chief to order strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. These strikes were in our national security interests and helped keep our nation safe. As a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I have received briefings on the intelligence behind these strikes, and I wholly stand behind President Trump's decision to strike these sites. I am also grateful to President Trump for successfully negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Iran shortly after these strikes. Please rest assured that I will continue actively monitoring all developments in the region, and I will always fight to keep the United States and our national security interests, including supporting our allies.
