Pretty things department: our 1915 house had gas sconces in every room. The gas is gone, but electricity followed, and each covered hole has 120V. They need sconces. This is Beth's Christmas gift. Butternut from the '08 tornado. Design Robinized from Sumner Green. Ebay provided the 1921 shade.

Just back from Nova Scotia, where the people are kind, civilized, friendly, funny, insured, and really well-informed. Also unarmed. Canadian flags everywhere. American products stripped from the shelves, and Canadian ones marked, Travel to the US is down 70%. Gods bless 'em.

Rituals. I used evil, now discarded FB as a sort of autobiography of everyday life. Here's a Bluesky one: annual Christmas tree disassembly--champagne, Messiah, new mantel picture (Glencoe after a climb), a fire, looking ahead. Everyday life to get us through a lot of the things we see coming.
