I think, I worry, I love nature. I worked as a physicist long ago, now I write code for a living. I write fiction, or aspire to.
They also used them, in combination with other things, to accurately calculate the size of the moon and the distance from the earth to the moon. This over 1500 years before Galileo. A lot of sophisticated mathematics and geometry was invented to predict eclipses

I say boil it until it's done, no longer than that. The box suggestions give us a hint that this will take longer, most likely, than it takes to brush your teeth, but not so long as it takes to watch an episode of Game of Thrones. The box should never be your master

Peace and blessings to you all,

that resonates with one or two of you. But the news, and my mind reading it, have been grim. If I wrote now what I'm feeling, I'd be screaming about politics. If that's what you want to read Lord knows there's no shortage of it out there... but it isn't what I want this little space to become.

When he's also Paul Morphy: Oh, and checkmate.

And you just capitulated to this by voting for cloture, hoping everyone on our side will be bamboozled by a string of kabuki votes afterward.
You had one opportunity, literally only one, to actually fight for any of this. And you gave it up for nothing.
The entire Dem leadership needs to go.

You have absolute freedom to run your department however Elon says.

Well, that reassures me very not.

As a child I would have climbed up each branch of that tree and had a different adventure with my friends in every one.

He was encased in carbonite, in perfect hibernation. And on the the third day the angel Leia pushed some buttons on the side of his container and he rose again...

The devils ruling hell take grave offense at this comparison: they would never tolerate such sloppy disorder. They will demonstrate to Elon what efficiency in tormenting people really looks like just as soon as he arrives.

I know, she's hard to find. I keep fishing and fishing with a lure shaped to imitate a young King Arthur, but do far only the most ill tempered pike have ever lunged at it...

Fortunately I suspect horses don't place much stock in symbolic representations of anything, so they likely just ignore it. It's us with our big prefrontal cortexes that imagine pasts and futures and find this creepy...

I always found those trophy heads disturbing, but never saw one of a horse before...

If i cause the chaos and I know the timing of the crash, I can make lots of money shorting things. So all that stuff can be extremely beneficial to a tiny group of insiders.

Variations of this idea have been done many times. My favorite among them is Arthur C. Clarke's story of printing pi to septiillions of digits and finding a message written there. Such a message could only be placed by altering the structure of logic itself.

Distilling spirits is an ancient art, but distilling the spirits of cats is much harder than it sounds. This sort of liquor has a bite, and may leap clear out of the glass

You need to do it like the Count from Sesame Street: "One! One card. Two! Two cards! Ha ha ha ha".
The casino people really love that, especially when you keep it up for hours.

With respect this is dead wrong: how you felt was always at the core of it. Their feelings of power came only from seeing evidence of your fear and pain and anger: they could gain nothing from bullying someone who ignored or laughed at them. It's not they had no empathy. They had antiempathy.

In 1984, this sort of retroactive "truth correction" was literally Winston Smith's job. Pereptive fellow, Orwell, he noticed this role is always necessary. See? Our new leaders will discover they have need for a civil service after all.

If the world is mostly Trumps, we're doomed indeed, but mercifully he's a rare sort of monstrosity. I would say: Be a Zelensky in the face of Trumps....
February 28, 2025 at 11:31 PM
It is. It only happened to me a few times, just after I'd had surgery to my neck. Always in dreams, for some reason. Pure terror, mercifully it's not happened for a long time.

basic arrangement of parts is the same: fundamental fermion and its antiparticle bound together by gauge field. You're right the similarity breaks down in detail because QCD (SU(3)) behaves quite differently than QED (U(1)). Still... kinda parallel.
