Frankly, I'm just trying to match up to my dog's expectations.
Mod brain just tells me 'Looks like a good 1632 alt hist map...'

Have you heard of Terra Invicta?

I wonder if it's related to the sort of feedback the authors are getting from beta readers. Fanfic access has really exploded over the last few decades, and that must have impacted the sorts of feedback that authors receive.

I guess the one difference would be the exploration mechanic as a necessary way to work around the established conflict zones to get into rear areas.

Most space 4x's I've played don't really include the same limits in exploration, unless you run into another empire's territory.

Right. Anything more complex would probably be a nightmare to try and depict in a book as combat heavy as this series is.

Good point. The starfire system as depicted in the books seems simplistic in comparison to those games mechanics though.

It makes sense sense given the necessary limitations of an old school wargame.

It seems like something that could be the good basis for a Stellaris mod, at a minimum

The change in scale of the bug threat between in death ground and the shiva option was a real disappointment when I read them as they came out. It kind of felt like they got hit with the nerf bat in between stories in the service of making them beatable in the span of a single, very long, book.

Stewart sticks the landing on closing out this series really well. I've been kind of disappointed with how they close out some of the other space opera series they've written, but this one is solid. The spin off series is pretty good also.

Maybe videos of bradleys lighting up russian tanks, maybe videos of ice dudes getting wrecked. YMMV

There are mods for warno.

Find a game that doesn't put money in russian pockets

That last line...damn. I feel like so much of what people are missing is that they do not live in an environment where they know others as others and have to accept them as brothers.

I'm just very tired.

This time as farce

'Failure to Launch' might be too close to your other interests to be interesting.

'Lions Led by Donkeys' is often dark but entertaining.

FFS...of course it's fake

Meh. The Force Awakens was such a complete invalidation of the original trilogy that it killed my enthusiasm for the ST as a whole. What's the point of watching something that lacks meaning or even competent plot execution?

Might be a bug, but I installed it and suddenly my pop growth is negative...

In the limitations of altered carbon, sure. Because they all work under the same rules.

I could see easy ways for a merchant house with enforced retirement or corp to outmaneuver meths. They'll always be ahead of the tech curve in comparison to people centuries old.

Is becoming tyrants dependent on the reality of multi-century life, or the belief that it is achievable?
