Rugby, photos, politics, and insurtech. These are things I'll want to post about.

Not such a good Friday IMO

I've seen a few people recommend this @theatlantic.com article by David Brooks.

But like, I'm not sure the millions of Irish people killed or displaced by the Potato Famine are that keen on Robert Peel's great moral rectitude.

It's mad really that Jordie Barret doesn't start this game.
April 4, 2025 at 12:04 PM
The Atlantic's analysis is so damningly simple.

The full Tariff table if you're interested.

You know when you're playing Articulate or Trivial Pursuit, and a person on the other team is trying to describe Mark Wahlberg, but they're saying he's the guy who starred in The Martian - but their teammate is also an idiot, so it cancels out and they get it. This is that. #Rugby

@theatlantic.com have released screenshots of the full signal group chat and members.

And the thing that annoys me the most is that Vance's two letter icon is JV and not JD.

Well, and the threat to national security.

I just finished reading this. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was really clever. Now to read some reviews and find out why I'm wrong.

It took me till right now to realise Make Europe Great Again was a much better acronym. #mega

Europeans have different ways of expressing their displeasure.
March 4, 2025 at 8:34 AM
As an Irish person I sometimes worry we slightly shirk our responsibility to Europe becuase we're a small safe island nation with big allies.

I can't imagine our leaders ever saying this, and yet I feel like we're a similar nation to Denmark (size, economy, culture, significance wise)

I don't think I ever noticed that the "Democracy Dies in Darkness" slogan was written in grey font on an almost black banner.

Prophetic. #politics

I saw this photo of Macron on other social site. He's cutting off Trump mid lie. The photo celebrates Macron for taking a stand.

The only leaders the West has in this fight are him and Trudeau. Trudeau is on his way out, and Macron is unpopular and moving Right in France.

I'm always worried that if I post more than once per day, it'll look like low quality spam.

Meanwhile the @data.ft.com is writing articles with entire graphs of Elon's daily tweets about UK politics.

From an @data.ft.com report on declining late night bars. This chart for Dublin is shocking. We've really killed the night in Ireland.

Threads is a nice idea.

But some of the posting on there has become almost LinkedInesque? Like sort of vapid self congratulatory stuff.

Regardless of the good and bad of Taylor Swift specifically, people have plenty of self actualising to do after they're rich. It's still for them.

None of the players in this photo are anything at all to do with the two convicted criminals re-signed by Montpellier. #rugby @rugbypass.bsky.social

If I'd known the packaging was gonna be this cool I'd have saved it for Christmas.

Classy 150th anniversary jersey from the @irfu.bsky.social, paying tribute to the men and women who have captained Ireland.

Hey Bluesky. If I'd been around for the past 5 years you'd know that this is basically what my wrapped always looks like. I reckon Chappell can't have been that far off making this a girl pop clean sweep.

This is the current completions (they use ESB connection figures to estimate them). We complete now 10 times more per year than we did in 2014, but we would probably need to hit 180k (6x) per year 2034 to achieve that aim—at which point we would be building way too many annually.

I keep looking at this constituency in the context of Donnelly. He needs to find 1000 more votes than Timmins over the next 6 counts. Obviously LAB and GP will go Whitmore, but the independents are a mystery to me. #ge24

This is what Mike is talking about.

Jim O'Callaghan just got over the line with Ivana Bacik transfers. So that surplus will go to Hayes more than Andrews.

As Mike says, the cognitive dissonance in SF is there base isn't as socially tolerant as their new voters.
December 1, 2024 at 6:27 PM
This is the share of the vote the top 3 parties have won in each election since 1957 (GPT pulled the data, but it looks right).

This is what I mean by leakage, it's not bad thing. But it will continue, and it will become harder to form governments and pass legislation.
