My partner had an ‘08 with 260k miles and she recently sold it to a friend and it’s still going strong. Virtually zero substantive issues with the car. Incredible longevity

I’d rather walk on a street with two through lanes and a median with trees instead of a street with four through lanes and no trees. So it helps me as a pedestrian. You know as well as anyone this design is safer than the current design for all modes.

…except in this case they’re literally removing two through lanes of car traffic to put in the median

Is it making 1st like Delridge or… more like 1st in pioneer square? If we get a median with London plane trees and one less lane of traffic in each direction I’d say that’s a pretty meaningful improvement.

Arterial streets aren’t the problem though. Collector and neighborhood streets are the issue. Those don’t get swept regularly and if they do the cars parked curbside block street sweepers from being effective. That’s the bigger issue.

SDOT could also do street sweeping throughout the city like DOTs in most large cities do. Require vehicles to be moved out of street parking the first and third Tuesday of each month (or whatever frequency). Don’t make this our problem as residents.

Ah, I see. For low speed limit roads that should be ok

“Placed outside the limits of the clear zone” is disappointing since it will reduce their effectiveness for discouraging bad driving but at least they’re adopting a standard

Not even bold leadership, just any leadership at all would be nice at this point…

Also, fwiw, I ride often on union st and think that’s a good example of buffered and non-door-zone bike lane that puts parked cars between bikes and traffic (mostly). It’s cheap and effective and doesn’t require any signal upgrades either since bikes can use existing ped and vehicle signals

I think for safety of reducing vehicle/bike conflicts the one-way option is best. I don’t trust drivers to be aware of two-way bike facilities

I live nearby and talked with one of the retail tenants. Existing leases run through the end of this year. The person I spoke to said the owners planned to start “early next year”. Fingers crossed!

This story has repeated about every five years since sound transit was voted into existence. There’s never enough planning, never enough outreach, never enough mitigation. Someone is always mad. Build it and all will be forgiven at opening day

90 MUPs for one light rail extension. Unreal. Make them exempt. Give them a zone of influence and let them build whatever they want inside that zone.

Been saying this for so long about Seward park. There’s basically nothing within a mile of a park. Please, just let me buy a hot chocolate.

So what do you plan to do? This is a time for literally taking risks. Speeches are dead. Get out there and physically put yourself in the middle of this. If you’re not up for that, retire, and let the next generation literally get into fistfights with these assholes

I don’t think there is broad opposition to the comp plan. There is broad opposition from groups who claim to speak on behalf of neighborhoods, but that doesn’t mean they actually do. Those same groups were silent throughout the outreach process.

Amazing how much we allow the city call drainage and water+sewer projects “transportation” projects
