I'm now spending lots of my life dealing with customers who've asked ChatGPT a technical question, got an answer, and now want me to find out if it's true, and justify myself with proof if not. They used to instead ask me a technical question.

Personally I'd never touch one of those things. If I wanted to hide illegal behaviour or something I'd be embarrassed about, I'd not look to a company advertising honeypots to attract such people, which is what these VPN companies can be. I'd just fire up a Cloud VM under my own control somewhere.

Oh, don't worry, I could easily create a VPN product that does everything the bill seeks to ban whilst being technically and legally provable to not fall foul of the bill.

Then they need to define it that well in the bill, rather than having a definition, different from that used by the industry or the public, which is technically impossible.

The bill combines defining words differently to the way they are used in the industry and by the general population with the technically impossible. This isn't generally a good plan for making law.

Unfortunately, " a virtual private network for accessing the internet" is not a thing. You need internet access first, before accessing a VPN.

They mean using a VPN to change the way you access the internet as if you were someone or somewhere else, or to protect your traffic from being visible to an ISP.

It absolutely is a threat, if the ICE person is committing, or planning to commit, crimes that may be prosecuted (under another administration).

It appeared that his view was that things were better in Victorian times when rich benefactors helped the poor, rather than the state. Seemingly not knowing that the state started to take on that role because it wasn‘t even close to being fulfilled by a handful of rich men.

We also need a media the focusses on the policies of the government through the lens of how they affect the people of the country, not how the affect power games in Westminster.
