Judge Dredd is a satire, not a training manual!

No, that shows you want to take 110%. Show you'll give it by pouring 10% too much water into the interviewer's glass.

I'm now spending lots of my life dealing with customers who've asked ChatGPT a technical question, got an answer, and now want me to find out if it's true, and justify myself with proof if not. They used to instead ask me a technical question.

If only AI could show it's working!

I thought those working hours were abandoned in the 90's because they produced such shoddy output!
January 28, 2026 at 5:13 PM
Might work as a strategy, as the media is pushing for it.
January 28, 2026 at 2:19 PM
I'm not planning to do that either.

Personally I'd never touch one of those things. If I wanted to hide illegal behaviour or something I'd be embarrassed about, I'd not look to a company advertising honeypots to attract such people, which is what these VPN companies can be. I'd just fire up a Cloud VM under my own control somewhere.
January 28, 2026 at 10:46 AM
Oh, don't worry, I could easily create a VPN product that does everything the bill seeks to ban whilst being technically and legally provable to not fall foul of the bill.

So : Much more austerity, fewer health workers, help make the planet uninhabitable?
January 28, 2026 at 10:29 AM
Then they need to define it that well in the bill, rather than having a definition, different from that used by the industry or the public, which is technically impossible.
January 28, 2026 at 10:23 AM
The bill combines defining words differently to the way they are used in the industry and by the general population with the technically impossible. This isn't generally a good plan for making law.
January 28, 2026 at 9:59 AM
Unfortunately, " a virtual private network for accessing the internet" is not a thing. You need internet access first, before accessing a VPN.
January 28, 2026 at 9:56 AM
But not the definition in the bill, which says something different, which means it is regulating something different. Something technically impossible, unfortunately.
January 28, 2026 at 9:55 AM
From the bill, “consumer” means a person acting otherwise than in the course of a business;

The definition trumps the normal use of words by most people.
January 28, 2026 at 9:31 AM
They mean using a VPN to change the way you access the internet as if you were someone or somewhere else, or to protect your traffic from being visible to an ISP.
January 28, 2026 at 9:29 AM
“relevant VPN service” means a service of providing, in the course of a business, to a consumer, a virtual private network for accessing the internet;

Ok, that's narrower, too narrow in fact, as you need internet access to use a VPN. They mean something else.

It absolutely is a threat, if the ICE person is committing, or planning to commit, crimes that may be prosecuted (under another administration).

It appeared that his view was that things were better in Victorian times when rich benefactors helped the poor, rather than the state. Seemingly not knowing that the state started to take on that role because it wasn‘t even close to being fulfilled by a handful of rich men.

We also need a media the focusses on the policies of the government through the lens of how they affect the people of the country, not how the affect power games in Westminster.

I'm not American, but I don't know where Auschwitz is.

I am however haunted for life by what I saw and felt during a visit to Buchenwald.
January 27, 2026 at 4:38 PM
Don't hire anyone under age 18, no bring your child to work days, no IT used in schools?
January 27, 2026 at 3:27 PM
Comparing quote and comment, I'm guessing missed the b at the start by accident.
January 27, 2026 at 2:40 PM
If so, please frequent more small establishments to support your local community.
January 27, 2026 at 1:15 PM
Oh absolutely, but I like that example as there they discover that everyone uses them without knowing.
January 27, 2026 at 11:10 AM
And not employ anyone under 18 at all locations that use IT equipment? Or will they have a lower cutoff which would be ok.
