S&P 500 closes up 5.7% on a week during which the Trump admin and China put lock-out tariffs on each other. Taxes high enough to cripple the most important trading relationship in global economic history.

Did a deep dive into whether President Trump can be sanctioned for flouting insider trading laws in the lead up to his reversal on reciprocal tariffs. www.marketwatch.com/story/can-a-...
Can a president break insider-trading laws? Trump’s online post sparks debate.
Six Democratic Senators sent a letter Friday to the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission requesting an investigation.

There’s no evidence in the real-time data that DOGE is saving taxpayers money
Despite Musk’s claims, Trump administration spending on pace to surpass Biden’s
The U.S. Treasury is on pace to spend 7.4% more in 2025 than last year.

Baseball season is a big test for whether this app can replace what we lost with the death of Twitter. So far, so good! Just need the Phillies to wake up.

Markets are underestimating the potential impact of a protracted and dramatic government shutdown. The unprecedented factor in this shutdown threat is how it could be leveraged by DOGE to cement control over the federal government’s payment systems.

In 2016, AppLovin founders thought they had struck gold. The mobile advertising firm, founded by Adam Foroughi and his team, had inked a $1.4 billion deal to sell itself to China’s Orient Hontai Capital. A massive payday was on the horizon.

Then Washington intervened.
A U.S. security review made AppLovin America’s hot stock — and its founders rich
Who says government can’t create wealth? CFIUS, an obscure panel playing an increasing market role, blocked the sale of AppLovin years before a stock-market bonanza.

Google is toast
I think the totally understandable negative polarization among people on the left towards AI has obscured for people just how shockingly advanced the tech is getting. The consumer facing image slop is laughable but DeepSeek’s research abilities are insane.

President-elect Trump will enter office with the lowest unemployment rate since Richard Nixon in 1969.
Is Donald Trump inheriting the best economy in history?
President-elect Trump will enter office with the lowest unemployment rate since Richard Nixon in 1969 — but red flags remain.

"It’s built into the fabric of life with Trump that when you say something like this, a chorus of people will say you’re being naïve, or this isn’t normal or whatever else. But that is simply a militant commitment to living within the eddies and currents of this man’s drama."

Bitcoin is pulling back after a serious post-Trump rally. The movement to create a strategic bitcoin reserve could be the asset's next catalyst. Trump and his allies in the crypto industry want reverse the correction with the creation of a bitcoin strategic reserve, paid for with public resources.

Mitch McConnell's strategy in 2009-2010 was a disaster for the conservative movement. Obama Passed the ARA, ACA, Dodd-Frank and then got reelected in '12.
Hilarious to see Democrats live through Mitch McConnell in 2009-2010 (among many other examples) and then think their best strategy is trying to seem reasonable by deal-cutting with extremists and grifters like Musk, RFK, etc. Um.

New CBO analysis says that a universal Trump tariff of 10% and 60% on China would raise $2.7 trillion over 10 years and raise consumer prices by roughly 1%. Not a very progressive tax, but seems like a once-in-a-generation opportunity to get the GOP to pass some tax hikes (and take the blame).

I think the story of media, particularly online media, in the last couple decades is basically “market becomes more efficient, society realizes inefficiency was load bearing ”

Excellent development. High-intensity drinking makes it sound like I'm a go-getter.
Researchers are increasingly focused on a more dangerous pattern of alcohol use that they call high-intensity drinking: consuming eight or more drinks in a row for women and 10 or more drinks in a row for men. nyti.ms/3V9w72J
