I watched one of those early on as well and thought yeah, no lol. Unless I'm changing warp colors the only upside I see in doing it that way is if you don't want to use the full length of the warp threads because then you could snug them up from the bottom.

I do the warp as a single thread with a running stitch at the bottom. Easy peasy.

And I would play it at about 930 lol

I'm probably overthinking this but are they maybe conflating "probationary" with a fresh out of school newbie? Maybe not realizing (certainly not caring) that literally everybody starting a new position has a probationary period, whether or not they're new to public service?
