I really like the fact that on p8, the frontispiece featured Galileo - whose observations Hevelius is pretty rude about - forced to hold up the title. digital.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/objects/42bf...

Oxford’s Schwarzman Palace of the Humanities looking rather splendid, viewed from Green Templeton’s old observatory. Will be perfect for Crystal Maze reboot.

The observatory looked at 3I/ATLAS just a week ago, on July 31st and August 1st, and the stacked images are here. These are observations in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum - at these wavelengths, what you're mostly seeing is OH molecules, caused by sunlight splitting good old H2O (2/n)

Rubin isn't just about galaxies - the survey will revolutionise our study of the Solar System, refine our understanding of the Milky Way, catch more supernovae in two months than we've seen in all of human history and more. And it will produce beauty like this image of the Lagoon and Triffid.
